During May 9-13, 2018, under the framework of the project “Overcoming policy, market and technological barriers to support technological innovation and South-South technology transfer: the pilot case of ethanol production from cassava” funded by UNIDO and GEF, Asst. Prof. Veara Loha from KMUTT, his assistants and UNIDO staff-Mr. Supalerk Kanasook visited FIRI for the pre-run testing of the pilot plant of ethanol production from cassava with the capacity of 50 lpd.
From 9 to 12 May, the team conducted the pre-run testing, tested the system with water, controlled equipment temperature and ran the ethanol distillation system. The team held discussions with FIRI on May 13 and gave valuable recommendations. According to their opinions, the 500L cooking and saccharification tank, the 500L automatic fermentation system and the 1500L semi-automatic fermentation system are in very good conditions; meanwhile, some other equipments need to be further improved and completed. Regarding the crude distillation system for 40% alcohol, the cooling tower should be installed instead of chilling water. The rectifying distillation system is working well but the feeding section should be installed lower etc.
FIRI team appreciates recommendations of Asst. Prof. Veara Loha and UNIDO staff. The Food Industries Research Institute will improve the equipments of the pilot plant in the coming month.
